People need to stop letting the media, politicians, and society brainwash them. Islam is not a propensity towards violence nor is being Muslim.
The vast majority of the 1.8 billion Muslims throughout the world who have absolutely nothing to do with violence and every single verse of the Quran which prohibits injustice, compulsion in religion, etc.. is proof of that.
2:256 There is no compulsion in religion: true guidance has become distinct from error, so whoever rejects false gods and believes in God has grasped the firmest hand-hold, one that will never break. God is all hearing and all knowing.
4:135 O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.
2:208 O you who have believed, enter into peacefulness, the whole (of you), and do not ever follow the steps of As-shaytan**; (The all-vicious, i.e., the Devil) surely he is an evident enemy to you.

God does not like corruption

99.3% of all terrorist attacks in Europe from 2007–2014 were perpetrated by non-Muslims according to Europoll.
New Study finds that OVER 90% of all the terrorists who have attacked America from 2008–2016, including mass shootings and right-wing extremism, were non-Muslims.
According to the FBI 94% of terrorist attacks carried out in the United States from 1980–2005 have been by non-Muslims.
Even if Muslims carried out every terrorist attacks since 1970, all 140,000+ of them, those terrorists would still only be 0.00009% of all Muslims world-wide.
Rumi, a well known 13th century Sufi saint, taught: “The heart of Islam is God’s word, the Koran, which is the direct, written reflection of God’s Attribute of Speech or Word (Kalam). Since God’s Attributes are co-equal with God himself, the Moslems hold that the Koran in its essence exists eternally with God.”

Islam, as derived from the Qur’an, is easy to understand so there should never be a need for exhaustive or complex explanations.
Yusuf Ali –
54:17 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?
Atheists keep asking Muslims and other theists who created God (الله). The obvious answer to that is None.
God (الله) is by definition the Ever-living and Sustainer of all that exist. That means God (الله) is the only creator and is uncreated.
SAHIH International –
3:2 Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence.
Note: The word “him” is being used in the general sense. God (الله) has no gender or sex.

The existence of God (الله) is self-evident from the fact that the universe was brought into existence from its beginning which implies it had a creator.
There is no Trinity in Islam. The Trinity is not consistent in any way with who Jesus (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) was.
4:171 O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not “Three” – Cease! (it is) better for you! – Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.
Jesus (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) was only a messenger. Never was he a god. To think otherwise would be deluded. God (الله) gave clear signs. One of which is him being born of the virgin Mary
ABDUL HALEEM –
5:75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger; other messengers had come and gone before him; his mother was a virtuous woman; both ate food [like other mortals]. See how clear We make these signs for them; see how deluded they are.
Asbāb al-nuzūl (أسباب النزول) is a reference to the occasions or circumstances for the purpose of a revelation. Some scholars think of it as Historical context. “Asbab” tends to be exegetical in nature though rather than historiographical.
Updated “Sword verse post“. See, http://www.quranguy.org/?p=1345
Chapter (Surah) 9 verse (Ayat) 5 is often referred to by anti-Islamists and others as the “verse of the sword”. A label given as it is claimed the verse sanctions warfare on non-Muslims. When the verse is put in context this claim falls apart.
1-14 Sahih International –
9:1 [This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.
9:2 So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.
9:3 And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away – then know that you will not cause failure to Allah . And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment.
9:4 Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].
9:5 And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
9:6 And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah . Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.
9:7 How can there be for the polytheists a treaty in the sight of Allah and with His Messenger, except for those with whom you made a treaty at al-Masjid al-Haram? So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].
9:8 How [can there be a treaty] while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse [compliance], and most of them are defiantly disobedient.
9:9 They have exchanged the signs of Allah for a small price and averted [people] from His way. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.
9:10 They do not observe toward a believer any pact of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors.
9:11 But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then they are your brothers in religion; and We detail the verses for a people who know.
9:12 And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease.
9:13 Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun [the attack upon] you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are [truly] believers.
9:14 Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people.
As can be seen from the context provided in the above quote – 9:5 is in reference to a specific situation when a war was initiated by evil idolatrous pagans through their breaking of a treaty.
This compelled Muslims at the time to win said war using the best tactics. Which Allah (swt) would allow to occur since the enemy was doing evil initiating the war and by being idolatrous pagans.
Note: Arabic in this instance was not provided as the context for the verse was extensive. Everything provided though is accurate in terms of the general meaning. Nothing was left out.
Esoteric interpretations of the Qur’an. In Islam such interpretations are known as taʾwīl (تأويل). A concept and term that appears in the Qur’an seventeen times. One example being chapter (Surah) Ali ‘Imran. Which gives a fundamental definition of:
Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran –
5-7 Surely nothing in the earth or in the heaven is hidden from Allah. He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise. He it is Who has revealed the Book to thee; some of its verses are decisive — they are the basis of the Book — and others are allegorical.
In the aforementioned definition it is made clear that the purpose of such interpretations is to make a distinction between verses that are “decisive”(muhkamat) and verses which have “hidden meaning” (mutashabihat).
Such interpretations typically can only be made by people who have sought guidance from Allah (swt). Said definition makes clear also that it is Allah who “revealed the Book” and “nothing… is hidden from”.
A van was driven into a crowd of people in Barcelona’s Las Ramblas district killing 13 and injuring 100. Two arrests have been made in connection with and the Islamic state (Da’ish) has claimed responsibility.
The Islamic state terrorist(s) who carried out this attack in no way represent Islam or any peaceful law-abiding Muslims around the world.
This attack was cowardly, unIslamic, and extremely evil. It is unequivocally condemned by QuranGuy.
Please pray for the victims of this attack, their families, and all people of Barcelona, Spain.
May the peace, blessings, and mercy of Allah (SWT) be with all the victims and their families. Ameen
Contrary to what some Muslims and even most non-Muslims believe the Qur’an is NOT incomplete or missing certain details without Hadeeths (sayings) of Prophet
Qur’an 6:38 We did not leave anything out of this book.
Qur’an 7:52 We have given them a scripture that is fully detailed, with knowledge, guidance, and mercy for the people who believe.

Qur’an 12:111 In their history, there is a lesson for those who possess intelligence. This is not fabricated Hadith; this (Quran) confirms all previous scriptures, provides the details of everything, and is a beacon and mercy for those who believe.
Qur’an 6:114 Shall I seek other than God as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.

It now is coming to the end of Ramadan. Which is known as Eid al-Fitr. Meaning: The feast of breaking the fast.
Please wish all your family, colleagues, and friends who are Muslim a blessed EID (Mubarak).
Note: Eid al-Fitr 2017 in United States of America began in the evening of Saturday, June 24 and ends in the evening of Tuesday, June 27.
There was an attack at a bus station in Jakarta, Indonesia. Reports are two terrorists exploded a bomb killing 3 Police officers and injuring at least 10 others.
“TWO suspected suicide bombers killed three Indonesian police officers and injured 10 people on Wednesday night in twin blasts near a bus station in the eastern part of the capital, police said.” – AC
“Indonesia’s anti-terrorism unit raided the home of a suspected suicide bomber on Thursday as authorities linked attacks that killed three police officers at a Jakarta bus station a day earlier to the Islamic State militant group.” – REUT
In no way is this attack Islamic. Much like with the attacks in Manchester and Barcelona this is an act of terrorism. Suicide and the unjust killing of others is explicitly and unconditionally prohibited by the Qur’an.
Sahih International –
4:29 O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.
Please keep the families of these police officers and those injured in your prayers, thoughts, and hearts. May Allah have mercy on the victims and their families. Ameen
There was a terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena; Manchester, England. Reports are the terrorist exploded a bomb he was carrying into the Arena. Estimates are 22 have been killed and 59 injured.

“Twenty-two people, including children, have been killed and 59 injured in a suicide attack at Manchester Arena.” – BBC
In no way is this attack Islamic or Muslim. This is an act of terrorism by a disturbed and deranged person. Suicide and the unjust killing of others is explicitly and unconditionally prohibited by the Qur’an.
Qur’an 4:29 O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.

Islam (n.) 1816, Arabic Islam (الإسلام), literally: “submission”. From root of aslama “he resigned, he surrendered, he submitted” – causative conjunction of salima “he was safe” and related to salam “peace.”
Six essential Islamic beliefs. Requirements for being a believer.
A verse (Ayat) that encompasses all the laws of Shari’ah. Some scholars have stated the most comprehensive is Al-A’raf 7:31. As it has a command, a prohibition, permissibility, and information.
Sahih International – 7:31 O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
Knowledge is a light which Allah places in the hearts of whomever he wills. The light shows the way providing guidance. It becomes an illumination whereby man can see everything in its proper place.
Pickthall – 24:35 Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche wherein is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a shining star. (This lamp is) kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself) though no fire touched it. Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will. And Allah speaketh to mankind in allegories, for Allah is Knower of all things.
There was a Bomb explosion at the Ataturk international airport in Instanbul, Turkey. Reports are 39 have been killed with 147 injured. This bombing has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. It is an act of terrorism and is 100% unequivocally condemned by quranguy.
The extremists and islamophobes use the same tactics. Both take verses (Ayat) from the Qur’an at face-value and in isolation. Never providing anything of substance. Such as – context, a logically valid exegesis, and so forth.
Only difference between the two are their motives. The islamophobes are trying to direct people away from or against Islam. Whereas the extremists in many cases are trying to justify criminal acts to further a political agenda.
Whether Muslim or non-Muslim we should all abhor this and take a firm stand against it. 1. These kind of tactics are not intellectually honest, and 2. they stymie true intellectual discourse.
There is a prohibition upon making Takfir. Which is the act of declaring another Muslim a disbeliever (Kafir).
In the hadith Ibn Umar related that the Holy Prophet said: If a Muslim calls another kafir, then if he is a kafir let it be so; otherwise, he [the caller] is himself a kafir.” (Abu Dawud, Book of Sunna, edition published by Quran Mahal, Karachi, vol. iii, p. 484)
Abu Zarr reported that the Holy Prophet said: No man accuses another man of being a sinner, or of being a kafir, but it reflects back on him if the other is not as he called him.” (Bukhari, Book of Ethics; Book 78, ch. 44)
“Withhold [your tongues] from those who say `There is no god but Allah’ — do not call them kafir. Whoever calls a reciter of `There is no god but Allah’ as a kafir, is nearer to being a kafir himself.” (Tabarani, reported from Ibn Umar)
Call not the people of your Qibla [i.e. those who face the Ka`ba in Makka for prayer] as kafir.” (Al-Nihaya of Ibn Athir, vol. iv, p. 187)
“Nothing expels a man from faith except the denial of that by which he entered into it [i.e. the Kalima].” (Majma` az-Zawa’id, vol. i, p. 43)
“Three things are the basis of faith. [One is] to withhold from one who says `There is no god but Allah’ — do not call him kafir for any sin, nor expel him from Islam for any misconduct.” (Abu Dawud, Book of Jihad, 15:33)
“Whoever attributes kufr [unbelief] to a believer, he is like his murderer.” (Tirmizi, ch. Iman (Faith); see Arabic-Urdu edition cited earlier, vol. ii, p. 213. See also Bukhari, Book of Ethics; Book 78, ch. 44)
“And among the doctrines of the Ahl as-Sunna is that none of the people of the Qibla can be called kafir.” (Sharh `Aqa’id Nasfi, p. 121)
Regarding Imam Abu Hanifa, the founder of the Hanafi system of Islamic law, which has more followers than any other system in Islam, it is written: “He did not call as kafir anyone from among the people of the Qibla.” (Sharh Mawaqif, fifth part)
He said: “Nothing expels a man from faith except the denial of that which made him enter it.” (Rad al-Mukhtar, vol. iii, p. 310)
“It is extremely serious to expel a Muslim from the faith.”(Sharh Shifa, vol. ii, p. 500)
“A ruling of takfir against a Muslim should not be given if it is possible to interpret his words in a favourable manner.” (Rad al-Mukhtar, Book of Jihad, ch. on Apostasy)
“As for statements of takfir found in books of rulings (fatwa), these are not proof if the authors are unknown and the arguments are missing, because in matters of faith, beliefs depend on conclusive proof, and the takfir of a Muslim is attended with troubles of all sorts.” (Sharh Fiqh Akbar, by Mulla Ali Qari)
Allama Sayyid Jalal-ud-Din wrote: “The takfir of people of the Qibla is itself an act of unbelief.” (Dala’il al-Masa’il)
Ibn Abu Hamra, a saint, wrote: “It has already been stated that the rule of the Ahl Sunna is that they do not call kafir, or consider as going to hell eternally, anyone who is of the people of the Qibla.”
“The Imams have made it clear that if there is any ground for not issuing takfir, a ruling of takfir should not be made, even if that ground is weak.” (Raf al-ishtiba `an `ibarat al-ishtiba, p. 4, published in Egypt)
“The generality of the theologians and the jurists are agreed that none of the people of the Qibla can be called a kafir.” (Al-Mawaqif, printed in Cairo, p. 600)
“Some prejudiced persons from the Asharis call the Hanbalis as kafir, and some Hanbalis call the Asharis as kafir. But their calling each other kafir is not right because the belief of the trustworthy Imams of the Hanafis, Shafi`is, Hanbalis, and the Asharis, is that none of the people of the Qibla can be called a kafir.” (Miftah Dar as-Sa`ada wa Misbak as-Sayyida, vol i, p. 46)
Note: Although these proofs are not from the Qur’an per se they are from numerous different sources which is sufficient enough to establish said prohibition does exist.
There was a mass shooting in Orlando, Florida by a person who is purported to be Muslim. This shooting has absolutely nothing to do with Islam or the greater Muslim community in North America. It is an act of terrorism and is 100% unequivocally condemned by quranguy.
Longest word in the Quran is Fa’asqainakumuh (فأسقيناكموه). It is found in Chapter (Surah) 15 verse (Ayat) 22. It means: “so he will save you from them”
Qur’an 15:22 And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
Written record of the Qur’an was made while Prophet Muhammad (عليه السلام) was still living. It was recited by the Prophet from memory and written down by scribes.
Scribes wrote down revelation being recited on palm leaves, leather, and bones. Each chapter (Surah) and verse (Ayat) was arranged in the order they were revealed.
The Qur’an initially was not compiled into one volume. Although some of the companions (Sahaba) of the Prophet did make personal copies for themselves after having memorized what was being recited.
Collection of copies occurred after the death of the Prophet during the caliphate of Abu Bakr He put Zayd bin Thabit, one of the Prophets scribes, in charge of gathering all written srolls (suhuf) in existence.
After gathering was complete all copies were then checked and verified for accuracy by companions of the Prophet. All of whom were Hafiz.
Note: “Hafiz” is an honorific title given to a person who has completely memorized the Qur’an.
After the death of Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) these collections were then transferred to Hazrat Ḥafsa bint Umar who was the daughter of Umar ibn Al-Khattab and one of the wives of the Prophet.
The standardization into one volume (mushaf) from those collections took place during the caliphate of Uthman bin Affan
Transcribing of the standardized Qur’an from said collections was done by four of the most knowledgeable scribes: Zayd bin Thabit, Abdullah bin az-Zubayr, Sa’eed bin al-Aas, and Abdur-Rahman bin al-Hisham.
After transcribing was completed copies were then sent to various territories and regions to replace any other collections in circulation. Uthman kept a copy of the standardized Qur’an in Madinah and the original scrolls (Suhuf) were returned to Hafsa.
The companions (sahabah) of the Prophet were in agreement that the standardized copy is the one true revelation that was sent down to Prophet Muhammad (عليه السلام) from Allah (سبحانه و تعالى).
The codex (Mushaf) of Uthman originally had no dots or vowel markers though. These were not necessary at the time. Most knew Arabic in a pure form. What is now known today as classical Arabic.
The spread of Islam into other countries justified the eventual need to guard against incorrect reading and pronunciation. This made the need for said dots and markers necessary.
Scholars were initially reluctant about the addition of but latter agreed that they did not change Qur’anic text or context and only aided in proper pronunciation.
Short vowel sounds were represented by dots positioned above, below, or to the left of a letter. This was introduced during the caliphate of Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan by Abul-Aswad ad-Du’li.
Letters which were similar were differentiated by a different system of dots above and below during the caliphate of ‘Abdul-Malik bin Marwan. His governor al-Hajjaj appointed two scholars, Nas bin ‘Asim and Hayy bin Ya’mur, to implement this system.
Some like to use hadeeths as an explanation on the Qur’an. The problem with this is many who use hadeeths in such a manner typically end up going straight to hadeeths. In effect bypassing or even ignoring the context for a particular verse (Ayat).
Many accusations have been leveled against our beloved Prophet (PBUH). One of the most prominent is the claim he married a child. It has been claimed his wife Aisha (RA) was six. Some say nine.
Based upon historical facts and simple arithmetic we can conclude with certainty that this claim is absolutely false and any Hadith which says otherwise is a fabrication (Maudu`).
Asama, the sister of Aisha, was 10 years older than Aisha and died in 73 A.H. at the age of 100 years. Thus, at the time of Aisha joining the Holy Prophet as his wife in 2 A.H. Asma’ was 29 which would make Aisha 19.

Some have falsely concluded Muslims worship a moon god. This conclusion is based upon a falsehood that has been propagated by Dr. Robert A. Morey. A Christian apologist and pastor who has been very critical of Islam.
This falsehood like many others is based in complete ignorance. This can be ascertained from the fact that the Qur’an explicitly instructs believers NOT to prostrate to the sun or moon but rather the creator. The one who created the celestial bodies.
Qur’an 41:37 And of His signs are the night and day and the sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, but prostate to Allah , who created them, if it should be Him that you worship.
In Islam violence is not prohibited it is conditional. With the condition being that it is to be used against an aggressor or combatant. Which is someone who initiates fighting against a believer.
Qur’an 2:190 Fight in the way of Allah THOSE WHO FIGHT YOU but do not transgress limits. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.
Someone who initiates fighting against a believer puts him or her on the DEFENSE. The intent therefore, should always be to DEFEND ones-self or another. Which is the opposite of an unjust use of violence.
The Qur’an is not a textbook or manual but it does contain everything a believer needs in terms of his or her beliefs (iiman). Nothing is missing.
Qur’an 7:52 We have given them a scripture that is fully detailed, with knowledge, guidance, and mercy for the people who believe.
Qur’an 6:115 The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
Software engineer recently did a textual analysis of religious texts and found the Bible contains more references to killing and destruction than the Qur’an.
Mr. Anderson, the Engineer who conducted the analysis, states: “Killing and destruction are referenced slightly more often in the New Testament (2.8%) than in the Quran (2.1%), but the Old Testament clearly leads—more than twice that of the Quran—in mentions of destruction and killing (5.3%).”
It should be noted that violence in the Qur’an, contextually, is always in references to a just use of violence and said analysis did take this into account.
Muslims are explicitly warned against seeking other than Allah as a source of Law (Shariah).
Qur’an 6:114 Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.
Narrated `Uthman bin `Affan: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The most superior among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”
The hijab per se is not a requirement. It is, however, a type of veil (حَجَّبَ) so it does qualify as meeting the requirement of not displaying the “adornment” and covering “bosom”. Which is the requirement.
Qur’an 24:31 And say to the female believers to cast down their be holdings, and preserve their private parts, and not display their adornment except such as is outward, and let them fix (Literally: strike) closely their veils over their bosoms, and not display their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husbands’ fathers, or their sons, or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’s sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or what their right hands possess, or (male) followers, men without desire (Literally: without being endowed with “sexual” desire) or young children who have not yet attained knowledge of women’s privacies, and they should not strike their legs (i.e., stamp their feet) so that whatever adornment they hide may be known. And repent to Allah altogether, (O) you believers, that possibly you would prosper.
The word veil (حَجَّبَ) should be thought of as a covering, concealment, and screening off and not any one specific type of attire or garment.

Note: This is a general list. NO intent is being made to take the Qur’an out of context. Always read everything before and after.
The Qur’an defines a Muslim as simply one who is in submission to Allah (SWT).
Qur’an 2:131 When his Lord said to him, Be a Muslim, he said: I submit myself to the Lord of the worlds.
Ahl Al-Kitab (أهل الكتاب) is a Quranic term which refers to “People of the Book”. They are the Jews, Christians, and Sabaeans. These are the people who posses the revelations which came before.
Prophet Isa (عيسى), Jesus, is mentioned in the Qur’an Twenty-five times. Peace Be upon all the Prophets of Allah.
How many Surahs were revealed in Makkah and how many in Madinah?
It is narrated from Hadhrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) that he asked Hadhrat Ubayy bin Ka’b (R.A.) regarding the portions of the Qur’an that were revealed in Madinah. He said that only 27 Surahs were revealed in Madinah and the rest of the Surahs in Makkah.
Both Madinah and Mecca are in what is now known as Saudi Arabia. The two cities are roughly 451.0 km apart or 4 hours by car.
Praying for the victims and their families of the #SanBernardino shooting. May Allah bless and comfort them all. Ameen!

Maulana Ahmed Ali Lahori (R.A.) has stated the summary of the Qur’an is three things:
1. To worship the creator – Allah (الله),
2. Obidence to Rasulullah (PBUH),
3. To serve the creation.
The dervishes come from the Mevlevi Sufi Order (Tariqa). This order is from Konya, the central Anatolia region of Turkey.
This order was started by Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi-Rumi. In the west he is better known as just simply “Rumi”. He was a 13th century Persian Poet who is famous primarily for his poetry.
Dervishes are famous for their whirling. Which is part of what is called Sama (سَمَاع) – the Sufi ceremony.
Whirling done by the dervishes is active meditation. It is not merely meditation though. Whirling is also a form of Dhikr (ذِکْر). Which means: “remembrance of Allah”.
Dhikr is derived from the Qur’an. The Qur’an states, “in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (13:28)
While whirling the dervishes wear a camel skinned hat called sikke and a white robe called tennure. Over that is a black robe that is taken off before whirling.
The black robe is symbolic of the Ego’s dark shroud. Before initiating whirling the Dervishes cross their arms. This is symbolic of the unity and completeness of Allah.
Whirling is from right to left as the planets in the solar system orbit. This is an embracing of love for all humanity from the creator and sustainer of the Universe.

This is a recitation of chapter (surah) 1 in Arabic with an English translation. Learning recitation (tilawa) of the Qur’an requires a mastering of tajweed. Which are the rules governing the proper pronuciation and recital of the Qur’an in Arabic.
This is an original Qur’an manuscript. It was found by complete accident at the University of Birmingham in the Research library archives. No one knows how it got there. This particular manuscript contains only one Chapter, Surah 9. It was transcribed in Hijazi script.
It has been dated to between 568 – 645 C.E. Prophet Muhammad (SAAW) died June 8, 632. This manuscript was likely, therefore, transcribed while the Prophet was still living. Radiocarbon dating was carried out by scientists at the University of Oxford.
There has been a series of terrorist attacks in Paris, France. Estimates are 150 people have been murdered. With at least 80 being injured.
The extremists who carried out these attacks in no way represent Islam or the vast majority of peaceful law-abiding Muslims around the world. These attacks are cowardly and are unequivocally condemned by QuranGuy.
Please pray for the victims and their families and all the French people of Paris. May the peace, blessings, and mercy of Allah (SWT) be with all the victims and their families. Ameen
The goal of the anti-Islamist is not to give you the context or an exegesis but rather, a distorted view of Islam. It is an attempt to present a truth about Islam in a negative light. The most common way this is done is by removing surrounding material crucial to the context of a particular verse.
To not fall prey to this trick one should look at every verse contextually to find its truest meaning. The simplest way to do this is to examine everything that comes before and after the verse. A minimum of 3-5 verses is good starting point.
The phrase “Fight in the way of Allah”. This is not a command to go out and unjustly kill innocent Non-Muslims as some have concluded. It is a command to fight against those who fight you and not to become the aggressor i.e. initiator of violence, while doing so.
As is clearly stated in chapter 2 verse 190 of the Glorious Qur’an, “Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you,but begin not hostilities.Lo! Allah loveth not aggressors.”
Many have falsely concluded Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States of America, owned a copy of the Qur’an so he could understand his enemies. This conclusion is false for the fact that Jefferson knew of no pending wars as he was still a student at the college of William & Mary when he made his purchase.
The Barbary pirates, who many cite as being his enemies, did not wage war with the USA until 1801. Roughly 41 years after Jefferson started his education at the College of William & Mary.
The real truth is Jefferson owned his copy of the Qur’an to aid him in his studies. At the time Jefferson was a student of jurisprudence.
Jefferson purchased his copy of George Sale’s translation of the Qur’an from a bookseller on Duke of Gloucester Street in Virginia, USA.
The Qur’an is currently being translated into American sign language (ASL) by Global Deaf Muslim – a non-profit Deaf Muslim organization. American sign language is the official language of the deaf in the United States of America.
Many deaf Muslims in the USA do not understand English or Arabic and as such, have very little knowledge on Islam. This makes a translation in ASL of critical importance.
There are no accurate statistics for how many deaf Muslims there are in the USA but some estimates are in the thousands. Projected costs of translating the Qur’an into ASL are $493,200.00 USD.
Note: The words translated, translating, and translation are being used for lack of a better word. The QASL Qur’an will be more of an interpretation, literally speaking, of the Qur’an in Arabic. The accuracy should be quite high though.
Rakʿah (كعة) is a unit of prayer. Each of the five daily prayers has a set number of Rakʿah, which need to be made.
The number of Rakʿah for each prayer is as follows:
Fajr (Dawn) – 2,
Dhuhr (Midday) – 4,
Asr (late afternoon) – 4,
Maghrib (evening) – 3,
Isha (Night) – 4.
The number of Rakʿah for each of the five daily prayers (Salah), as listed above, is a standard derived from hadeeths. The exact number is found nowhere in the Qur’an.
fig. 1 Is a pictorial of full Rakʿah.
September 24th, 2015 is Eid-al-Adha (عيد الأضحى). English: Feast of Sacrifice. This is an Islamic festival to mark Abraham’s (براهيم) willingness to follow a command of Allah (SWT) to sacrifice his son. It is celebrated on the 10 – 13 days of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah. It is mentioned in the Qur’an – 37:100-112.
The Qur’an was banned in Soviet Russia from 1926 – 1957. The Soviet Union was based on Communism and Communism is Atheistic. Thus, the reason Qur’an was banned in Soviet Russia.
The spontaneous creation of Man which some believe in is not Islamic. The Qur’an tells us man was created from the clay, which is a product of the earth. To truly be spontaneous creation would had to of been of nothing.
YUSUFALI: Man We did create from a quintessence (of clay);
PICKTHAL: Verily We created man from a product of wet earth;
SHAKIR: And certainly We created man of an extract of clay,
The Romanized English word “Koran” comes from the Arabic word “Qur’an” (القرآن الكريم) which comes from the Arabic root word “Qara’a” (قرأ) meaning: recite; read.
Many in the Muslim world have completely memorized the Qur’an. They have obtained the ability to recite (Tajwid) from memory, in Arabic, every Chapter (Surah) of the Qur’an. One chapter at a time. In Islam these people are given the honorific title of Hafiz (حافظ).
5 Ways the Qur’an forbids
- Terrorism i.e. hirabah (حِرابة), is above all murder and murder is strictly prohibited in Islam. “and do not kill a soul that God has made sacrosanct, save lawfully.” [6:151]
- Having religious motives and/or justifications for terrorism is impermissible. “There is no compulsion in religion. The right way has become distinct from error.” [2:256]
- Muslims are required to always exercise justice, even when they have a hatred for someone. “And do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.” [5:8]
- Violence can only be used against an agressor or combatant and it can never be used in a way which transgresses limits. “Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.” [2:190]
- Intiating agression is not allowed when the enemy seeks or wants peace. “But if the enemies incline towards peace, do you also incline towards peace. And trust in God! For He is the one who hears and knows all things.” [8:61]
To attribute the presence of scientific facts in the Qur’an to coincidence would be against common sense and true scientific approach.
Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran – 41:53 We will show them Our signs in the universe and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this ˹Quran˺ is the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is a Witness over all things?
The Quran invites all humans to reflect on the Creation of this universe.
Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran – 3:190 Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason.
Six chapters (Surah) in the Qur’an are named after animals.
Al-baqarah (The Cow),
Al-Anaam (The Cattle),
Al-Nahl (The Bee),
Al-Naml (The Ant),
Al-Ankaboot (The spider),
Al-Feel (The elephant).
Note: Insects are animals. They are arthropod phylum under Kingdom Animalia.
The Qur’an has explicit instruction, a prohibition in effect, for Muslims to NOT become divided.
The Qur’an in Chapter (Surah) 3 Verse (Ayat) 103 states: “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”
Despite this fact divisions do exist. The two largest and most well known are Shia and Sunni.
Since neither are specifically mentioned in the Qur’an they will be discussed only briefly and generally.
After the death of Prophet Muhammad (عليه السلام) in 632 A.D. there was a disagreement over who would lead the Muslim community (Ummah) as the next Khalif (خليف).
Note: A Khalif is essentially a spiritual and religious leader of the Muslim community (Ummah).
The rightful successor at the time was Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (رضي الله عنه) since he was the closest companion of the Prophet. Serving as a chief advisor from 622 – 632 A.D.
However, there were some who believed his succession was not legitimate. Their belief was Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) was the rightful successor.
This belief was supported by the fact that Ali was the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (عليه السلام) so traditionally he would be next in line.
That ended up turning into a dispute within the Muslim community (ummah) and from it emerged two divisions. The followers of Ali and the supporters of Bakr.
Two divisions which eventually became known as Shia and Sunni. With Shia meaning the “followers of Ali” and Sunni “adherents of the Sunnah”.
In various English meaning Qur’an’s there exist brackets. They typically appear as ( ) or [ ]. These brackets should never be confused with actual text of the Qur’an or meaning therein.
They are equivalent to in text commentary, but in most cases they should be ignored. Brackets are merely bits and pieces of one translators interpretation.
The Qur’an is considered sacred text. It must, therefore, be handled with care. Respect for the Qur’an is equivalent to an exhibiting of respect for Allah. Which can bring reward in this life or the hereafter. Insha’Allah. Allah is all-knowing and sees all.
General care and guidelines for handling the Qur’an:
- Never place on the ground.
- Never bring into a bathroom.
- Never place any books on top of.
- Keep all liquids away from as not to spill any on.
- Keep upright, vertical, when finished reading. The same as you would with books on a bookshelf.
- Do NOT dog ear any pages.
- Never bring into a room where marital relations have occurred.
- Never highlight or mark any pages or text.
- Keep away from your gentiles.
- Keep dust free.
Why does one need to look at the context of what he or she is reading (Iqra) in the Qur’an? For the fact that without context meaning often becomes distorted. This can lead to misunderstandings on a particular passage or verse (Ayat).
Jesus, Son of Mary, is mentioned in the Qur’an twenty-five times. He is referred to as a righteous prophet, messenger to Israel, sign, Spirit from God, and the coming Messiah.
